You should put on the best version of yourself when you go out in the world because that is a show of respect to the other people around you.

Red Carpet Review: 2012 Oscars

I’ll admit that my three best dressed picks from last night’s Academy Awards ceremony aren’t super exciting from a design perspective, but sometimes good ol’ fashioned glamour is just what the style doctor ordered.

Ellie Kemper in Armani Privé

I bet this gown looks even better in person. Suits her hair and skin to a T.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

Not a single misstep. The hair, the makeup, the jewelry− it all goes perfectly with the ensemble. And that cape! I’m melting.

Minimalism really works for Gwyneth. Click here and here to see what I mean.

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

Angie and Brad Pitt (in Tom Ford) are proof that extraordinarily beautiful people have it easier than the rest of us. With just a little effort, these two look fantastic.

Angie’s hair and makeup are up to snuff, and she is working that slit.

I’m awarding honorable mentions to Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji and Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab. Both ladies positively sparkled thanks to hefty doses of sequins.

As a fashion designer I was always aware that I was not an artist because I was creating something that was made to be sold, marketed, used and, ultimately, discarded.
