Not watching “Scandal”? Well you’re missing out on some epic political and romantic drama, and some seriously fabulous clothes.
Case in point:

Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington) helped get an underdog elected president, worked as his White House communications director, then left to start her own crisis management firm.
In other words, Liv’s a BAWSE. And her clothes (and shoes and bags) never let you forget it.

Doesn’t she just look someone who has their act together?

Well −spoiler alert− her life’s kind of a hot mess right now. But she always looks fantastic, and that’s all that matters.
The tweed coat. The winter white opera-length leather gloves (that match her short-sleeve sweater). It’s a look that’s stayed on my mind since this episode aired, but I wasn’t preoccupied with recreating it. It’s beautiful, but a little too feminine for me.
BUT THEN…
I was surfing the Tulle website (I bought a Tulle coat last year that has paid for itself in compliments) and came across this little beauty.

And I thought, “Three-quarter sleeves? I just found my Olivia coat.” (Yep, I really went there.)
Plus, the oversize houndstooth plaid is right up my alley. And the price was right.
It had originally been $115, but was marked down to $46. And Tulle is offering free shipping this month.
Score.
Much cheaper than Liv’s Piazza Sempione coat (which retails for $1,180).
Since I live in the Midwest, wearing a 3/4-sleeve coat in the winter without gloves isn’t really an option, so I set out to find some. I decided black would look best.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long to find a pair I like.

Aren’t they fun? The color blocking adds just enough interest.
They’re Lauren Ralph Lauren leather gloves. They originally cost $98, but were marked down to $49− a good deal. But they’re more expensive than the coat.
#ShoppingFail
However, I didn’t have many options since most of the opera-length leather gloves I found had triple-digit price tags. And I’m not prostituting myself for winter accessories this year. In comparison, these were a steal.
I did good, right?

That title? It’s a “Scandal” thing. Get hip, people.
Anyway, I never pass up an opportunity to write about two of my favorite things: “Scandal” and fashion. So when I read this “People” story about the gown Olivia wears in episode 208, I knew I had to post a little somethin’ here.

The dress is vintage. And beautiful, right?
The show’s costume designer, Lyn Paolo, told “People”:
“There were a lot of needs for this dress: I wanted it to be white to echo [an episode from] last year, and she had to be able to move in it, too— she had to run down a hallway in one scene, and withstand wind effects in another. So I needed something that flowed.”
Run down a hallway?! Withstand wind?!
Fitz is totally going to get shot.
Jesus, be a fence.

Fashion, “Scandal,” and Kerry Washington. Does it get any better?!

This had me in tears, y’all. Shonda Rhimes hates me.
And I love it.

Warning: I’m a rabid “Scandal” fan and there will be lots of posts related to the show here at TMM over the next couple weeks.
This clip is a sneak peek at the first episode of Season 2 titled “White Hat’s Off.” The season premiere is exactly two weeks from today and I am SO excited. Probably too excited.
