The Lady in Red
Shelley O brought all the fabulous last night. ALL THE FABULOUS.
She is, by far, the most fashionable first lady this nation has had since Jackie Kennedy.
For the inaugural ball at the Walter Washington Convention Center, the first lady wore a red chiffon gown with a plunging back and black velvet accents by Jason Wu. She accessorized with a handmade diamond ring by Kimberly McDonald and shoes by Jimmy Choo.
No one, including yours truly, thought she’d turn to Wu again for her inaugural gown.
Four years ago, her decision to go with the then 26-year-old designer was a surprising one, but one the fashion community appreciated. It seemed to reflect an interest in promoting young talent.
So many style watchers assumed she’d wear a gown by another relative unknown again this year, that she’d want to spread the love around, so to speak. But she didn’t.
She wore another Wu dress and I applaud her. She obviously wore what spoke to her. And you can’t argue with the results. She looked absolutely beautiful.
Brava, Shelley. Brava.
Oh, and the prez looked pretty good, too.
