Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. ~Coco Chanel
Though Inauguration Day was yesterday, (most of) the fun gets underway today: parades, speeches, parties, star-studded performances. In other words, MAJOR style watching opportunities.
The prez was sworn in for a second term during a private ceremony in the Blue Room of the White House. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office as Shelley and the girls looked on.
What a good looking family, right? (I have a feeling Sasha’s purple dress was an act of pre-teen rebellion. Hehe.)
Wearing a patterned dress by Reed Krakoff and sporting new bangs, Shelley held the family Bible as 44 recited the 34-word oath.
Then last night during an inaugural reception at the National Building Museum, she donned a sequined Michael Kors number (that made its first public appearance back in 2009).
Don’t they look amazing?! So youthful and vibrant.
But this afternoon Shelley outdid herself.
For the public swearing-in, she wore a Thom Browne coat (whose fabric was inspired by a man’s silk tie, according to the first lady’s office), a J.Crew belt, J.Crew gloves, and Reed Krakoff boots.
Shutting. It. Down.
They look straight out of Central Casting, amirite?
Clearly good things come in threes.
For their turn in the spotlight, Sasha wore Kate Spade and Malia wore J.Crew . (Somewhere Jenna Lyons is a very happy lady.)
As you can see, the color blue is a common thread among Shelley’s ensembles over the last few days. How appropriate for a Dem.
Think she’ll go with a blue gown this evening? I’m waiting with bated breath.
I’m not kidding.
Sadly I get super excited about this kind of stuff.
